Our accredited motorcycle accident detection and emergency alerting system automatically connects you to the nearest emergency services in your time of need.
This is not integrated with the motorcycle, and is a smartphone app, hence it could be used by owners of any brand of bike.
The algorithms monitor various sensors in the phone for acceleration/deceleration expected in a motorcycle accident.
The “auto-pause technology” helps to ensure it’s not set off by accident if someone drops their phone etc.
Other apps with e-call functionality exist, but these are typically set to call a specified emergency contact or are limited to a single market. Triumph SOS has been through a validation process and demonstrated sufficiently low false activation rates to have been approved to call the emergency services directly.
There are several big advantages with this. Firstly, the process is much quicker, and the call handler at the Public Service Answering Point (PSAP) will attempt to make contact with the rider as soon as the alert comes though (within seconds of the accident being validated by the algorithms). If they speak to the rider and they need assistance, of if they can’t make contact, the emergency services are immediately dispatched to the precise GPS location, with additional information such as direction of travel (to make sure they’re on the correct side of a freeway, tunnel, etc.), rider’s medical details, bike details (to help them spot the bike), etc.
Secondly, feedback from the emergency services is that they find it very difficult when emergency contacts are sent the accident alerts, as they then get phone calls from upset relatives who have very little information about the scene on the ground. This makes it very difficult to deal with the incident quickly and efficiently. They can also get multiple phone calls if more than one emergency contact is set up, which may then appear to be more than one incident to respond to.
The owner just has to enter their Triumph VIN to activate the 3 month free trial.
A server lookup is performed to determine the model and validate the trial.
The fee covers the subscription to the accident detection service. There are also other features within the app, such as route recording, which are free to use.
It’s a one month rolling subscription, which can be turned on and off at any time. The subscription is all administered though the user’s app store account, and will continue automatically once the 3-month trial ends unless cancelled (e.g. Apple Fitness).
Yes, the app needs to be on and “crash detection” started for this to work. It can run in the background, and uses very little battery. As mentioned before, it will auto-pause if you stop riding.
The emergency services are notified directly.
The back end system uses the GPS location to determine which Public Service Answering Point to call.
NO - Triumph SOS does not record or send any speed or telematics data to the emergency services.
